Owning Our Authority

I am my own worst critic when writing. Before I even hit “send,” I start worrying about people questioning, criticizing, or ridiculing my ideas.

It’s uncomfortable to share advice. The marketing tools that have worked best for me and my clients won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I keep doing it because I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I have.

I like to hide behind my computer. But, to grow a business you have to put it out there. Ask for the kind of work you want. Go beyond your comfort zone.

This Week’s Challenge:

Take 15 minutes today and answer these three questions:

  1. What clients and projects are the most profitable? Not just in revenue, but in ease of execution, repeat business, and referrals.

  2. What do you know that they might not know yet? Your knowledge may have been hard earned, or it may seem insignificant, but there are people who need what you know.

  3. Where do you want to be seen as the expert? What you have seen and done is super valuable to someone currently weathering those challenges.

Do any of your answers make you uncomfortable? Maybe you see a gap between where you are and where you want to be. Maybe you’re afraid to pitch to bigger companies or government work. Maybe it feels impossible to give up the current work even though it is not very profitable.

I get it. You are not alone if sharing makes you uncomfortable. I created this email series to help business owners and marketing managers feel more comfortable sharing their authority.

Keep reading each week as you build your confidence and get more consistent at winning better opportunities. Don’t be afraid some people won’t see your value. Let them be the critics. Don’t do it to yourself.

I recently heard an interview with Mel Robbins’ speaking out on her new book and the Let Them Theory. It fits.

  • Some will think you’re too expensive. Let them.

  • Some will ignore your work. Let them.

  • Some people won’t appreciate your expertise. Let them.

The people who do see your value… they’re the ones you want to work with!

This week, take the time to get clear on what’s working for you. Accept where you are. Dream about where you want to be. For the next 8 weeks we are going to build your online presence so you can confidently go after more of what you want.

You’ve got this!
