Clarify Key Messages

In my own marketing, I find being consistent can be difficult. I have this really great idea one week and then something even better happens the next. My team reels me in and pretty soon we have a third version. That’s why putting key messages into writing and sharing them broadly is important. When you have one clear message, people will remember it and refer friends.

Your challenge for this week is to write down your key message—what you want your business to be known for. Then, take a few minutes to check your website and an online profile. Ask yourself:

  • Is the message clear both places?

  • Will people read it today and still remember it tomorrow?

  • Is it consistent across platforms?

When your message is clear and consistent, you’ll attract the right clients and create stronger connections. If you want to do a deep dive, there are some great books on messaging:

  • Donald Miller -Building a StoryBrand, teaches you how to clarify your message so customers understand how you solve their problems.

  • Brené Brown – Dare to Lead, explores how authenticity and vulnerability can help you create a deeper connection with your own team as well as clients.

I think I’m going to read Seth Godin – This Is Marketing next. I’m told it’s a good one on building trust by consistently telling stories that resonate with your audience. Have you read it? Let me know if you have a favorite.

I know there you have a big week ahead, but I bet you can fit in an hour for marketing. I would love to see what you write down as your key message.

You’ve got this!
